Q and A

What is Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM)?

Every Door Direct Mail is a USPS service that allows the end user to pick the carrier routes or neighborhoods they want to mail to. Each address in the carrier route would receive the mailer so EDDM is less expensive to mail than standard mail.

How does Every Door Direct Mail work?

You visit the USPS EDDM Route Search Tool and pick the neighborhood you want to target. You will immediately see how many addresses fit your search as well as the postage. You do not need to know the names or street addresses.

What are common sizes?

The most common sizes are 6.5” x 9”, 8.5” x 11” and 6” x 11”.

What is the difference between EDDM and standard direct mail?

EDDM does not have a name and address printed on the mailer. EDDM is mailed to each address in a given area whereas standard marketing mail may have a much more defined audience. EDDM is great for companies where everyone wants or needs the product or service and where the target market is in certain neighborhoods. Standard marketing mail is better for companies with a wider geographic area using more pinpointed demographics and often requires a list purchase. Standard marketing mail also has a higher per piece postage cost.
